Chiropractic and pregnancy
During pregnancy, a woman’s spine is placed under extra stress. The spine must adapt to posture and weight changes with each passing month, as well as hormonal changes that loosen the ligaments in preparation for childbirth. This often results in lower back discomfort and pain. Many women have come to accept that back pain accompanies pregnancy, but it shouldn’t have to.
A chiropractor is specially trained to locate and correct problems that are causing your back pain, using special techniques to make you more comfortable no matter what your stage of pregnancy.
After childbirth, many women also experience upper back pain with breastfeeding and other new demands of childcare. This may be due to muscular strains and stress on the spine from a prolonged breastfeeding posture, and from lifting and carrying the baby. Chiropractic care and specific exercises can help to correct these problems and relieve discomfort.
Chiropractic and Children
Children are often brought to chiropractic offices with the same aches and pains as adults. Just as an adult’s spine is subject to postural strains and injuries, so is a child’s! A child may experience pain or discomfort due to any of the following:
- Carrying a heavy backpack at school; especially with mostly one shoulder
- Sitting too long/poor posture at school
- Extended computer use, whether for studying or gaming
- Falls, such as from bicycles, skating, and playgrounds
- Organized sports injuries
- Insufficient exercise
- Motor vehicle accidents
Headaches are also common in children and teenagers, and are too often accepted as a normal part of growing up, or dismissed as “just a bit of stress”.
The good news is that children’s bodies tend to be very resilient and dramatic results can often be obtained with early chiropractic care.
